BERNINA Meetings
January 7, 2008
Erika and I are off to Chicago for a week-long BERNINA's meeting, so we probably won't be checking the blog much this week. But we'll be learning new things, so should have some new topics to blog about when we get back!

Hello, Could you possibly give me the name of someone in Bernina that I could speak to about a special project I think would be wonderful for the company to take on. I have a patent on a garment for infants and children that will help eliminate some surgical procedures. Losing my grandbaby to cancer inspired my efforts. This would be a wonderful cause for Bernina and a blessing for the families and children that are ill.
I am not looking for money, just a good company that can get a much needed product to the babies. Thank you for reading this. Kathleen
Hi Kathleen - Sounds like a good cause! I'll e-mail you with contact information for someone at BERNINA. Jo
Can someone tell me the how to stuff a bridal ringbearer pillow without it feeling lumpy? Does Bernina have instructions for making one?
Hi Leila - One of my tricks for stuffing pillows without getting lumps is to put layers of quilt batting against the front and back of the inside of the pillow, then put polyfil
between the layers. I pull egg-sized pieces off the mass of stuffing, keeping them fairly loose, and fill the corners first, then the sides, then the middle.
I don't think there are any ring bearer's pillows on the website, but this Embroidered Memories Heirloom Pillow could be modified by just adding a ribbon. Good luck!
I have a Bernina 440 QE. When I was in Paducah a very nice lady in the Bernina booth showed me how to program the machine to start with a very tiny straight stitch and then switch to the blanket stitch and then end with the tiny straight stitch. I cannot remember how to do it. Can you help? I don't want to start and stop using the using the button that causes the machine to take 3 or 4 stitches in place because that leaves a bump. I am using the blanket stitch to machine appliques various shapes.
Hi Becky - This may not be the way you were shown at the Bernina booth, but it's how I usually start and end applique: 1) select straight stitch and reduce the stitch length to about 0.5, and move the needle position all the way to the side you want the securing stitches on; 2) your Bernina machine will remember these settings until you turn it off, so just select this altered straight stitch when you're starting and ending, then switch to the blanket stitch for sewing the applique stitches. (If you're going to be using the straight stitch between sewing blanket stitches, use the zigzag stitch for securing instead; just set the stitch width to 0 and follow the instructions for adjusting the straight stitch above.)
