Quilt Show Memories
November 17, 2007
I attended the International Quilt Festival in Houston, Texas for the very first time ever this year! It was amazing - so many beautiful quilts and so many creative people all in one place.
As a brand new National Educator for Bernina, it was my job at the Festival to show off the Happy embroidery machine. This machine is fascinating to watch, and lots of folks stopped to watch it stitching out embroidery designs. For those of you new to machine embroidery, the Happy uses 12 needles, allowing you to use 12 different colors at once - and will even cut threads and change between colors automatically. Yes, it is exactly as cool as it sounds!
Here I am with Alice Voss, Marketing Assistant for Bernina of America in front of the Happy machines.

The Bernina booth was a constant buzz of activity throughout the Festival, it was great fun to meet all of the sewing, quilting and Bernina enthusiasts that came to visit. Not only did guests get to play hands-on with any Bernina in the booth, but those that visited us on preview night got to share in anniversary cake and punch!
AND! I was so inspired by all that I saw that I am making my FIRST QUILT EVER with samples that I stitched at the Festival! Check back later for pictures of my first quilt - and tell what you think!

Hi Erika:
I am learning the Happy at our store. I am anxious to see your quilt! And any tips you have on stitching on jeans legs.
And hello to Alice, whom I met last August at Infusion. She makes the greatest Story Boards!
Hi Eileen,
Have you tried using the reversible 150 X 300mm Happy hoop for embroidering jeans? It's the hoop used on the jeans in this picture. This hoop can actually slip right into the leg of your jeans, and there is no need to cut open the seam!
Happy stitching,
Erika
Sadly, not to many guys live in Berninaland, but here at KC, there's at least one--me. In the projects area, how about posting those pdf's for the Twelve Days of Christmas?
Bernina Rocks!
Pat
Hi Pat - I don't have the 12 Weeks of Giving project PDFs, but BERNINA stores have access to all of the projects that have been posted. Your local store should be able to give you any that you've missed.
How large of a design does the Happy sew without splitting it...I bought the Super Double HIA for my bernina but it doesn't work like I was lead to believe it would...Thanks in advance for the info.
Hey Dee, the largest Happy hoop has a stitching area of 12" X 12" square, without splitting an embroidery design.
