Quilting Arts TV - Handbags
November 2, 2009
I had another wonderful week in Beachwood, Ohio with Pokey Bolton on the set of a future series for Quilting Arts TV! The diversity of the artists who come in for filming is amazing! I stand as close as I can to them in hopes some of it will rub off on me!
I can't let the cat out of the bag, but here are a few names that many of us recognize - Shelly Stokes, Sarah Vedeler, Jeanie Sumrall-Ajero, Teri Lucas, Natalya Aikens, Paula Press, Carol Taylor, Michele Muska, Beryl Taylor, and many more. I left quite a few off the list, but every artist shines in her (or his) area of expertise.
Left to right: Sarah Vedeler, Susan Brubaker Knapp, Jeanne Delpit, Dianne Giancola, and Natalya Aikens.
Yours truly did projects on interchangeable handbags, and what fun I had!
The Ellen Medlock kits were a blast to work with and inspired my creativity. Of course, the right handbag is just as important as the right shoes, so no lady should be without a collection of her own!
This one is the Ellen Medlock Preppy Tote. Instead of sewing the handle fabric straight into the bag, I inserted separating zippers to each side so I could create new bottoms and just zip them in place as my mood suits!
A rendition of the Ellen Medlock Wooden Bagette kit. For this one I used hook-and-loop tape to interchange the covers.
This is the Retro "Groovy" Bag by Lila Tueller Designs, but I made it completely reversible. The back side has embroidery in the Jumbo Hoop on the BERNINA 830 and decorative stitching.
The yellow side is the reverse side of the Retro "Groovy" Bag, with free-motion thread painting using the BERNINA Stitch Regulator as well as some embroidery in the 830 Jumbo Hoop.
I also had the honor of working with Jeanie Sumrall-Ajero and her kaleidoscope motifs to show how embellishing with embroidery or the BERNINA Stitch Regulator can enhance the variety of designs she prints out. Talk about letting my imagination run wild! Of course, using the BERNINA 830 made it even easier!
The instructions for the projects in this session will be available once the new series airs. This recent taping is to air in December, so watch the Quilting Arts TV website for the opportunities to watch in your market.

Thanks, Jeanne!!! You made my Preppy Mini-Tote and Wood Bagette extra special! Too Cute!
Jeanne, Thanks again for all your help during my shoot. It was so great to meet you there, and see you in Houston!
Jeanne,
Thank you so much for your kindness and for showing me how to use the BSR in BSR 2 mode. My machine quilting students with the BSR have greatly appreciated the option. My next Bernina will have the BSR!
Happy Quilting!
Teri
