Reeds & Grasses Table Runner

The minute I received the home dec assignment for an Endless Embroidery sample to showcase this feature of the BERNINA 830 I thought back to a wonderful embroidered tablecloth I saw in a high-end store in Switzerland. It had the most beautiful borders of reeds and grasses stitched in shades of green. How simple, elegant, and timeless.

Dreaming of duplicating this with just the right embroidery design and a great new embroidery feature, I started with my sketchpad. A large tablecloth morphed into a much more manageable table runner. Easily stitched and attached linen bands became the canvas for the embroidery. How wonderful to import a single design, select "fit to hoop" for multiples, dial in additional motifs, adjust their spacing, and even add registration marks for joining row after row! In no time I had embroidered four beautiful bands that rivaled those that I had admired in Europe.

I can't even imagine how many guidelines, dots, and plastic templates I would have had to create if I didn't have Endless Embroidery available to me with this machine. Thank you, Bernina, for helping me make this design dream come true!

Wow... I just got an 830 and still figuring out how to use it to do basic stuff. Can't wait until I get this sophisticated! This is absolutely gorgeous!!

Nancy:
Your tablerunner is gorgeous! Great to see the use of the embroidery designs on table linens. I too was awed by the beautiful Swiss & European embroidered linens on a recent trips, and have been inspired to use my embroidery designs on table cloths & table runners.

I'd be interested to learn in if you embroidered the borders separately and then attached and mitered them to the main section of the table runner?

What type of stabilizer did you use? I have used spray starch as stabilzer on 100% linen table runners and had positive results.

For the Bernina product educators & marketing team..... would be great to see a webcast or project instructions for creating such beautiful table linens, bordered pillows, etc on the website or blog.

Great job, Nancy... Love to see more.

Hi Laura - Nancy made linen strips for the border, then joined them (with mitered corners) to the center of the table runner. She used a new stabilizer from OESD for her embroidery - AquaMesh Biodegradable. The same wonderful AquaMesh sticky water-soluble stabilizer we all love, but environmentally friendly. I'll see what I can do about getting some instructions for doing this type of endless embroidery on our website. Jo

LOVE IT!!! but i don't have an 830 :(

Hi Lindsey - You can do the same thing on any embroidery machine, but you'll have to do lots of marking and rehooping! Jo
