The BERNINA 830's are In the House!
November 24, 2008
Dear Readers, the news you have all been waiting for has finally arrived! We have just finished two weeks of intensive dealer trainings in 16 locations around the good old USA and the dealers are taking the machines back to the stores so they can make them available to you!
The trainings were amazing with over 1400 dealers, teachers, salespeople and technicians attending.
Two days of product training were taught with one evening just on embroidery - we called it our "Embroidery Evening" and we embroidered denim panels for a great-looking tote bag.
Two days of technicial training were taught as well and it was so interesting to see the machines taken apart and impressive to see the legendary Swiss quality.
The dealers were as excited as we were to finally get to work on and spend lots of time with the Big BERNINA Baby!
We also gave them instructions for a couple of wonderful projects to teach you when they return to their stores to set up classes on the 830 and to begin to plan Mastery Classes for the machine. It was also great to tell them that the jumbo hoop, many of the Dual Feed feet, the single needle and 5.5mm stitch plates, and the external Multiple Spool Holder are now available or will be available soon in dealers' stores.
The fun is just beginning - be sure to visit your dealer this week to ask how the training went and to take a look at the amazing BERNINA 830. Happy Thanksgiving!

I've just received my 830 -- what fun! Now if I can just consistently get the bobbin correctly threaded for embroidery, I'll be in good shape.
Does anyone have a clue as to when we will be getting our 830 machines in our homes? Bought and paid for. No word as of yet.
Erica
I've had my 830 now for 2 weeks. I LOVE it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My husband is singing I wish I was an 830. Thats what I really want to be. I will be teaching alot of poeple how to use this sewing computer.
Just curious as to how much these machines are going for?
yes, I wish there was an expected delivery schedule available... with dates for various areas of the country, depending on when your machine was ordered, etc.
I've been told that Bernina is sending 1- 830 machine at a time. Paid for it the first of Nov., 08, and have been given 3 different dates.
What is the price of the new 830 machines? I am new to sewing (about 1 year) and this machine looks so great!!
Does anyone have a picture and specs of the new 830 Sewing Cabinet?
How much does the new 830 cost?
I saw the 830 at a sewing and quilting expo. Was I ever impressed, amazed but sad, realizing the blunder I made. I just recently purchased a viking designer diamond. The diamond is a great machine, but no match for this bernina. I guess the rest of my life will be lived in regret, sewing on a machine that is second best.
I got my 830 an it sews wonerful, but we have been fighting all evning and night about the metallic thread I use metallic needle. The top tension is set to 4. But the machine keeps stopping, showing the wheels. The embrodery looks great at the front, but what a mess at the back. I never have this problem with the 730E.
Hi Marianne - It sounds like too much thread is coming off the spool. Are you using a thread net? That will prevent the metallic thread from unreeling too quickly and causing problems. Let me know if that doesn't solve the problem - Jo
I use the net and i do not know what i do wrong. I have thread the machine 1000 times, both the top and bobbin thread. I use the spool holder in the middle, I swing the spoolholder out. The bobbin tension is loosen 1 point. I use metalic needle 80. The top tension is 3,5. I have checked for loose thread in the top tension. The metalic tread is Madeira 40. What tension do you use when you embroder with metallic thread, and do you loosen the bobbin tension.
thanks for your help.
Marianne
I've checked with the 830 experts, and they recommend that you leave the bobbin tension at normal, but loosen the needle tension to 2. Also reduce the motor speed to 1/3 or 1/2. Try using a Topstitch needle instead of an Embroidery or Metallic needle. Do you have the same problem with other metallic threads, or just with Madeira?
I have recently purchased the New 830 machine and it has been a nightmare. The first machine i had the needle threader didn't work so that went back, then i got another machine. The tension is completely out of kilter. I have tried adjusting tension and used different threads. I did take back to the dealer and he said he had to change three things on the machine to get it right. I have bought it home and it still isn't sewing properly. The needle keeps breaking and the cotton is getting knotted up on the back of sewing. I am going to have to get this one changed too. I would like to know what thread all of you sewers use for your sewing machine. In the shop they are telling me to only use the best, but that is very expensive, and I have always used to Coats embroidery thread and had no problem. If anyone has any ideas as to why I have got these problems with the machine I would love to hear from you.
I've had a lot of problems embroidering with metallic thread on the new 830. Eventually I was successful but not before miles of thread had been teased out of the bobbin area.
I think this is a fantastic machine but if you could deactivate the lower thread cutter, it would be perfect. I believe this cutter is responsible for the metallic thread problem. I don't like this feature one bit.
I also have had problems with metallic thread,I have tried them all and at the slow speed. In desperation I paid $25AUD for the last reel of gold thread still no luck and my little grand daughter loves fairies.
Some times the bobbin case does'nt come all the way out so I have to close the door and open it again in order to thread the bobbin.
The threader only works half the time
I've had my 830 for about 6 weeks. I've used it to do several different little things to learn all the things it can do. One of the things I do more than anything else is sew labels on Project Linus blankets. The last time I was doing this, the bobbin started acting up. It sounds like the bobbin is spinning and then it starts tangling on the back. When I open the bobbin, I find that somehow a piece of thread has become wrapped around the case. This happened more times than I care to count, and I finally got frustrated and quit for the evening. I changed thread, needle, made sure there wasn't any collected lint, everything I could think of and find in the book. Anyone have any other ideas?
Hi Gina - Sometimes just leaving the machine for a bit and returning later somehow fixes a problem. Did you still have trouble after coming back to your machine after a break? If so, try using a different thread on the bobbin and/or a different bobbin. Also make sure that the bobbin thread goes into its little slot correctly - use the mirror to make sure its threaded properly. Is the thread tangling on the back the needle thread or the bobbin thread? If you're not sure, use a different color thread in each. I suspect that it's the needle thread; is so, make sure that the needle thread is setting into the tension discs correctly. Jo
Hi Jo! I did leave it and come back another day...that always helps! First I reset everything to the default settings...just in case. Then I made sure there weren't any stray threads caught in the bobbin. I did a sample and it happened again. So, rather than just rethreading, I looked REALLY hard at how the threading lined up, top and bottom, and as I originally thought, and as you thought, it was a threading problem...with the bobbin. When I looked very closely, I could see that the thread was not being pulled far enough and so wasn't fully in the slot - this is hard to describe, but I could see that it wasn't between the two 'fingers' of the slot. Once I corrected that...it again runs like a wonderful dream!!! I am going to try to find a magnifying mirror to use to look - that might help a bit.
Hi Gina - Funny how taking a break fixes all sorts of problems :) They've started including little white mirrors - like the ones the dentist uses - with the 830. If you don't have one, check with your dealer. Jo
