830 Snippets

The news about the BERNINA 830 is beginning to hit the newstands - the October/November issue of Sew News has a great article on our BERNINA baby.

Also, the virtual overviews of the machine have begun with the next one scheduled on October 27. This is a wonderful way to learn more about the 8 Series from a BERNINA of America educator in the form of a Power Point presentation. All you have to do is register for the newsletter on www.bernina8series.com and you will automatically be sent information with a link on how to participate and learn more about this great machine virtually. You can hear and see it all on your computer - it doesn't cost a thing except a little bit of time (about an hour). I'll also remind you in the weeks to come!

You've been sending me questions asking about the vital statistics of the 8 Series machines - wanting to know measurements and standard accessories...and how many of the exclusive, gorgeous one-piece presser feet come with the 830? Some of you are beginning to map out where you will put this machine in your sewing room. Please see the dimensions of the machine and a list of accessories and BERNINA presser feet (including the magical BERNINA Stitch Regulator) that come standard with the 830. That should keep you dreaming for another week!

Next week - join me as we "Create with 8"! Until then...keep anticipating!

Gayle,
How many "D" feet will be available for the 830?

Why can't we use the CD drive we bought for our 730's? This makes things so hard for us who don't want to use softwear. Its bad enough that you don't offer a reader box to connect to the 830 directly like some of the lower machine companies do. Now thats really thinking of your customers

I have seen the video on the bernina web site and the bobbin seems to disappear intot the body of the machine... I was wondering if you can by pass the tension in the bobbin as in the 1630 200 730, to use thicker threads for doing things like cable stitch and take advance of the large capcity bobbin that is on offer :)

While I appreciate the photos of the feet, I can't read the print on this screen on my 17" monitor screen. Why are they not interactive so I can click and see them larger?

Linda - Two D feet come with the machine - Reverse Motion Foot #1D and Zipper Foot #4D.

Karen - The 830 hook system takes heavy thread beautifully for bobbin play. A special tool comes with your 830 to make tension adjustments easily.

I have been thinking about purchasing the 830 but I'm concern about its cost. I've heard that it will cost between $12,000 and $10,000. After seeing what the items that come with this machine I'm having second thoughts. You don't get very much else for the cost. How heavy is this machine? I already have a 1630 and will never give it up but I'm not to sure I want to pay that much for so little. I thought that the jumbo hoop would come with it to.

I am considering purchasing the new 830. Can anyone give me some comments or advice?
